Due
to the Magnus Effect the spin pattern of sliders causes them to “snap off”
at a downward angle as they approach the plate and Slide across the strike
zone as opposed to break or curve thru it. There are 3 ways to throw
a slider. Two of these produce the dots commonly associated by baseball
people with the “slider”. The other produces a spin akin to the earth spinning
on its axis and towards home plate.
