SINKER a modification of the TWO SEAM FASTBALL thrown by gripping the ball with the index and middle fingers moved up into the horseshoe and with the thumb moved from underneath to the side. The effect is similar to shooting a stone out of a catapult. The ball spins 6-12 or 8-2 but with fewer rotations and thus less aerodynamic lift and consequently more sink .

Sinker:

"Sinkers" have even less spin than 2 seamers and thus less lift and consequently more drop. Sinker pitchers keep the ball down and look for ground ball outs.
