The most common method for producing the slider is to grip
the ball with the index finger across the end of the horseshoe and to throw
it like a football with the wrist locked upon release and held at an angle
half way between fastball and curve. This produces a spin with the axis
of rotation parallel to the ground at an angle to the plate. For a right
handed pitcher the left hand side of the ball will be closet to the body
and a dot will be visible to viewers on the first and third base sides
of the ball.
